Food adulteration
Since food is something very close to my heart I had to write about this.
It started with a rat being found in the food of a restaurant located at bandra, where even I had been a couple of times.
Later spices from the top brands of india being exported were banned due to ethylene oxide contamination.
Years back a large 2 minute noodles was banned for excessive MSG and lead.
Recently a finger was found in an ice cream, literally they took the advice of KFC ‘finger lickin good’ - too seriously.
Leave aside restaurants which used expired pulses or so called quick delivery services having poor storage facilities.
This makes me think
Why are we okay with substandard facilities available to us or do we think our bodies can fight of everything with the typical spirit of ‘ Mujhe kuch nahi Ho sakta’
It’s time to take charge and make those amends -
1) Try and source ingredients from trusted sources, don’t buy something cause it is advertised as desh ke masale
2) Invest time in learning how to read food packaging labels
3) Cook your own meals - Trust me you can make delicious food at home, that way you can also know genuinely what goes in your stomach
4) Resist and stand up - once you stop buying foods which aren’t good for you manufacturers stop producing them. Simple game of demand and supply.

It`s a huge complexity in our mind that will you even survive if milk is not consumed !!
If something isn`t digested it`s your body telling you - I am more comfortable without it
Substitute milk for these sources of calcium not only will it provide the necessary calcium but it will also be utilised well by the body
1] Seeds - Sesame seeds , Chia seeds are both calcium rich make a paste and use them as a dip for the former and use them as an accompaniment with yoghurt or chia pudding for the later.
2] Nuts - Walnuts and almonds are good source of calcium either can be had as a snack or powdered and mixed as flour.
3] Beans and Lentils - Legumes like white beans, Chickpeas and lentils are rich source of calcium and can used as a dip, salad or curry.
4] Millets - Rajgira or amaranth used commonly in the maharashtrian household is another rich source
5] Fruit - Singhara or water chestnut can be dried and used in powdered form as an excellent source of calcium
I have on purpose stuck to indigenous sources for their easy availability and cost effectivity
